Künker Auction 425, lot 2610

This specimen was lot 2610 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,983 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN AB 1871 · BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, 2 DM 1951 G. Ähren. Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 33 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. Aus der Sammlung eines deutschen Fabrikanten und Geschichtsfreundes. (Germany, Federal Republic, two mark of 1951, ears of wheat.)"

This type was struck 1951 only. Mintages are substantial but it is not common. This is the rarest of the proofs. When production of this denomination resumed in 1957, the coin featured a bust of physicist Max Planck.

Recorded mintage: 13,012,000 plus 33 proofs.

Specification: 7 g, copper nickel, 25.75 mm diameter, edge lettered EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT.
