This specimen was lot 46256 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mark, 1950-J. Hamburg Mint. NGC PROOF-65 Ultra Cameo." This type was produced at four mints (Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Hamburg) in 1950 in such numbers that no more were struck until 1954. The Hamburg mint mark was "J". The last issue for circulation was in 1994 and the type was retired in 2002 with the coming of the euro.
Recorded mintage: 61,483,000 plus 350 proofs.
Specification: 5.5 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter.
