Künker sale 354, lot 6630

This specimen was lot 6630 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €130 (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND. 2 Pfennig 1950, G. R Nur 100 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte, zaponiert. (Germany, federal republic, two pfennig of 1950. Rare, only 100 examples struck, proof.)"

This type was produced at four mints (Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Hamburg) in 1950 in such numbers that no more were struck until 1958. The Karlsruhe mint mark was "G". The last issue for circulation was in 1969.

Recorded mintage: 17,151,000 plus 100 proofs.

Specification: 3.25 g, bronze, 19.25 mm diameter.
