Künker Auction 439, lot 2914

This specimen was lot 2914 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,032 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WEIMARER REPUBLIK, 5 Reichsmark 1929 E. Lessing. Polierte Platte, min. berührt. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Teutoburger Münzauktion 130, Borgholzhausen 2020, Nr. 2903. (Germany, Weimar Republic, five mark of 1929, Lessing bicentennial. Proof, lightly polished.)"

This type, issued 1929, was struck in some numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E", shown here), Stuttgart ("F"), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is among the more available of the Weimar commemoratives. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only 0.500 fine.

Recorded mintage: 12,000 plus proofs.
