Germany 1875-D 50 pfennig
This specimen was lot 1016 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Kaiserreich, AR 50 pfennig, 1875-D, blast white luster, PCGS graded MS65." This coin is a silver fifty pfennig from a type issued 1875-77 from the Berlin (mintmark "A"), Hannover (mintmark "B"), Frankfurt (mintmark "C"), Munich (mintmark "D", shown here), Dresden (mintmark "E"), Stuttgart (mintmark "F"), Karlsruhe (mintmark "G"), Darmstadt (mintmark "H") and Hamburg (mintmark "J") mints. Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design.
