Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 56610

This specimen was lot 56610 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Empire. Mark, 1875-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm I. PCGS MS-65." This type was struck 1873-87 at nine mints. This issue shares "most common date" status with 1874-A, 1874-D, 1875-G and 1876-A. Mintages dwindled thereafter as Germany moved to the gold standard and the old pre-unification coinage was melted down.

Recorded mintage: 30,340,307.

Specification: 5.55 g, 0.900 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
