UBS sale 83, lot 2602

This specimen was lot 2602 in UBS sale 83 (Zürich, September 2009) where it did not sell. The catalog description noted,

"Taler 1795. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Fast FDC-FDC," (1795 thaler, nice uncirculated).

This type was struck during a French-sponsored revolution which toppled the old oligarchy. This issue, tho denominated twelve florins, was meant to trade as a thaler. It was the first thaler struck in Geneva since 1723.

Recorded mintage: 21,000.

Specification: silver, this specimen 30,56 g.
