Sincona sale 95, lot 4272

This specimen was lot 4272 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,079 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 6 Sols 1795, Genf. Ohne Mzz. Silberabschlag. Schräg geriffelter Rand. Von grosser Seltenheit. Vorzüglich-FDC. Minimal gereinigt. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, six sols of 1795, Geneva mint, struck in silver, with reeded edge but without mintmark. Of high rarity, About Uncirculated, Very lightly cleaned.)"

This is a presentation strike of a type struck 1795-97 while Geneva was under French occupation. Thus the legend "L'AN IV·DE L'EGALITE". This date also comes with mintmark "TB". One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3 g, billon, 26 mm diameter, this specimen 3.60 g.
