Sincona sale 64, lot 3294

This specimen was part of lot 3294 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), which sold for 250 CHF (about US$313 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton, 6 Sols 1797, Genf. Ohne Mzz. Lot von 2 Exemplaren. Vorzüglich-FDC. (canton of Geneva, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1795-97 during a French-sponsored revolution which toppled the old oligarchy. Silver and copper off-metal strikes of this type exist, doubtless struck for presentation.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3 g, billon, 26 mm diameter, this specimen 1.41 g.

Catalog reference: KM 109, D.T. 1036d, HMZ 2-346h.
