Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 55337

This specimen was lot 55337 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Gold Franc, 2000. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-68." This specimen is from a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1960-2001 altho some years (including 2000) saw the denomination struck only for collector sets. The precious metal issues were strictly for insiders and collectors.

Recorded mintage: 100,000 (sets only) plus 5,000 in gold.

Specification: circulation issue: 6 g, nickel, 24 mm diameter; presentation issue: 8 g, 0.750 fine gold.
