H3096-31063r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31063 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Republic gold Proof "Chaplain's Marianne Bust" 100 Francs 2000 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC, Paris mint. Flawless in every respect, depicting a rarely seen cameo bust after Jules Chaplain's. Accompanied by a Monnaie de Paris COA. AGW 0.5028 oz. From the Paramount Collection." Starting in the 1980's, the Paris mint issued so many NCLT's that the standard catalogs had to drop them to keep the books a manageable size. This one was struck to honor Chaplain's bust of Liberty, used on gold coins of 1900-14.

Recorded mintage: 846.

Specification: 17 g, 0.920 fine gold, AGW 0.5028 oz.

Catalog reference: KM 1976, Fr-746.
