France 1859-A 50 francs
This specimen was lot 2466 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"II. Kaiserreich. Napoleon III. 1852-1870. 50 Francs 1859 A, Paris. Vorzüglich. Kleiner Randfehler. (Second empire of France, Napoleon III, 1852-70, fifty francs of 1859, Paris mint. Extremely fine, Minor edge nick.)"
This type was struck 1855-59 at Paris and Strasbourg, superseding the forty francs of Louis Philippe. It is not rare and most specimens trade for their bullion value. This is a slightly scarce date.
Recorded mintage: 34,042[1].
Specification: 16.13 g, 0.900 fine gold, 28 mm diameter, designed by Jacques-Jean Barré, this specimen 16.08 g.
