This specimen was lot 30451 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. 50 Franc, 1858-BB. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder." This type was struck 1855-59 in France at Paris and Strasbourg, superseding the forty francs of Louis Philippe. It is not rare and most specimens trade for their bullion value. This is a fairly common date.
