This specimen was lot 24565 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $5,287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles X gold 40 Francs 1824-A, MS63 NGC, sharply struck with brilliant surfaces, just a hint of handling in the obverse fields. Rare type in this select grade." This type was struck 1824-30 and most of the seven known dates are rare. This one is slightly scarce. Forty francs of Louis XVIII (Fr-532) are also known for 1824.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: 26 mm diameter, 12.90 grams, 0.900 fine gold, .373 troy oz AGW.
