Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3030

This specimen was lot 3030 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XVIII, 1814-1824, AR 1/2 franc, 1824-A, horse head privy mark, with pleasing original toning over semi-prooflike fields, AU." This dime-sized coin was struck at Paris under the régime of king Louis XVIII (1814-24). It is a late date of a type struck 1816-24. All half francs of this reign are of this type, which is fairly common. It was demonetized in 1869.

Recorded mintage: 613,140.

Specification: 2.50 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, plain edge. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut, 1786-1879.
