This specimen was lot 34170 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, 1809-B. Rouen Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS MS-62. A singular example at PCGS for this date and mint combination, the present specimen provides enchanting appeal through its use of pastel iridescence and glistening brilliance. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1984 for $125). Ex: George Sobin Collection (Lepczyk - 3/1984) Lot # 1197." In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. The reverse was revised in 1809 from REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE to EMPIRE FRANÇAISE and struck in this style thru 1814. This date from the Rouen mint is somewhat scarce.
