This specimen was lot 40272 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 2 Louis d'Or, 1767-(Cow). Pau Mint. Louis XV. NGC MS-61. Featuring the cow mintmark, this type was issued for the province of Bearn. Charmingly struck and preserved, with a golden-olive hue and a few light adjustment marks across the face." Altho the Pau mint issued a substantial number of double louis d'or au bandeau du Béarn, enough to qualify it as a common mint, it obtains a premium as it counts as a separate subtype in the French catalogs. The obverse legend reads "LUD·XV·D·G·FR· ET NA·RE·BD·" instead of the standard "LUD·XV·D·G·FR· ET NAV·REX·".

Recorded mintage: 16,976.

Specification: 16.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 28-29 mm diameter, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 792a, Dr/2 № 542a, Fr-463; KM-522; Gad-346a.
