SB925-74747r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74747 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/10 Ecu (12 Sols), 1726-Y. Bourges Mint. Louis XV. PCGS AU-55. From the Richard August Collection." Shown is a dixième d'écu aux branches d'olivier of the Bourges mint (mintmark "Y"). This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's. The tenth écu was the ancien régime version of a dime tho never struck in sufficient numbers to really convert France to a decimal currency.

Recorded mintage: 107,568, a fairly common date of a rare mint[2].

Specification: 2.94 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 849, Dr/2 № 582, KM-481.22; Gad-291.
