This specimen was lot 1882 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,040 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AV louis d'or aux lunettes, 1726 N, Montpellier. D/ B. drapé à g., tête nue. R/ Écus ovales de France et de Navarre sous une couronne. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-1774, gold louis of the spectacles of 1726, Montpellier mint. Obverse: draped bust left with bare head; reverse: oval arms of France and Navarre under a crown. Very Fine.)"

This louis d'or aux lunettes is recorded for 1726-40 and is among the more common gold coins of the French ancien régime. This is the only reasonably common date for this mint.

Recorded mintage: 267,600 (305,000 per the SCWC).

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen 8,13 g.
