This specimen was lot 1857 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AV demi-louis d'or à l'écu, 1691 P, Dijon. 1e réformation. D/ T. vieillie à d., coiffée d'une perruque laurée. R/ Écu de France couronné. Rare. Réformé sur un demi-louis de Paris. Sur flan large, avec brillant de frappe. Belle patine. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold half louis of the shield of 1691, Dijon mint, first reformation. Obverse: laureate and peruked head right; reverse: crowned arms of France. Rare, reformed over a half louis of the Paris mint. On a large planchet with mint luster, nice patina, Extremely Fine.)"

This date is common for the type but the type as a whole is scarce to rare. While edge reeding was introduced to the French mints about 1687, this is the first series to use it on a routine basis.

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.917 fine gold, 20-21 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen is 3,35 g.
