Künker Auction 425, lot 1035

This specimen was lot 1035 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,133 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · FRANKREICH, KÖNIGREICH Louis XIV, 1643-1715. 1/2 Louis d'or à l' écu 1691 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1690 geändert) D, Lyon. Réformation. GOLD. R Sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, demi-louis d'or à l'écu of 1691, Lyon mint, 1691/0 overdate, reformed. Rare, very fine.)"

The demi-louis d'or is much scarcer than its larger brother, tho this type, the demi-louis d'or a l'écu, turns up occasionally. It was issued 1690-1693.

Recorded mintage: 98,889, all rf[2].

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.917 fine gold, 20-21 mm diameter, designed by Joseph Roëttiers, this specimen 3,34 g.
