Sincona sale 101, lot 2639

This specimen was lot 2639 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,809 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Königreich und Republik, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d'or à la mèche longue 1653 K, Bordeaux. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the long lock of 1653, Bordeaux mint. Very rare, About Extremely Fine.)"

This louis d'or à la mèche longue is among the more available louis of Louis XIV, altho the 1653-K is a rare date. The SCWC lists only 1605-K and 1656-K but we have a 1652-K and 1654-K as well as this 1653-K.

Recorded mintage: limonite.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, designed by Jean Warin, this specimen 6.68 g.
