Sincona sale 57, lot 2892

This specimen was lot 2892 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$357 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Ecu à la mèche longue 1653, Aix. Gutes sehr schön. Kleine Stempelfehler. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu of the long lock of 1653, Aix mint. Good very fine, Small die defects.)"

The specimen shown is an écu à la mèche longue struck in Aix during the reign of Louis XIV. Droulers[1] prices this date somewhat higher than the common date (1651-A).

Recorded mintage: 21,505[1].

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin and Isaac Briot, this specimen 27.01 g.
