This specimen was lot 40264 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1653-Y. Bourges Mint. Louis XIV. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Incredibly brilliant and sharply struck, this nearly-choice specimen radiates with great luster and an engaging golden-orange hue. A fairly RARE mint, it is not surprising that this piece represents the only such appearance for the date and mint combination in the PCGS census." This louis d'or à la mèche longue, struck at the Bourges mint 1649-50 and 1653-56, is among the more available louis of Louis XIV. It is still an expensive coin, particularly as this is a rare mint.

Recorded mintage: 2,000.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 24-26 mm diameter, designed by Jean Warin.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 345, Dr/2 № 216, Fr-418; KM-157.21; Gad-245.
