from Heritage Auction Galleries

This specimen was lot 26619 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Louis XIV Ecu 1653-B, XF, well struck for the type with hair curl softness as is always encountered, pleasing gray tone on both sides." The type was issued in large numbers 1646-54. This specimen is a product of the Rouen mint, which closed in 1857.

Recorded mintage: 124,860.

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
