Sincona sale 47, lot 1654

This specimen was lot 1654 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, Konigreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Ecu à la mèche longue 1653 L, Bayonne. Vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu of the long lock of 1653, Bayonne mint. Extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

The type was issued in large numbers 1646-54. This specimen is a product of the Bayonne mint.

Recorded mintage: m. 12,684[2], a fairly common date.

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine, plain edge, 38-41 mm diameter, this specimen 27.11 g.
