Sincona sale 82, lot 1572

This specimen was lot 1572 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 9,500 CHF (about US$12,714 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth I. 1558-1603. Gold Crown n. d. (1561-c. 1564), Tower Mint. Milled coinage. Mintmark "star". Sehr selten (Very rare). NGC VF Details. Kleine Kratzer (Small scratches). From auction St. James's 6, June 2007, lot 92. From auction Spink 75, London, March 1990, lot 198. From the E. M. Norweb Collection Part 3, auction Spink 56, London, November 1986, lot 928." This gold crown was tariffed at five shillings. Milled crowns are much scarcer than the hammered issues such as Fr-204.
