England (1560-61) shilling
The first specimen was lot 22413 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1560-61). Elizabeth I (1558-1603). PCGS EF-40 Secure Holder. Second issue with bust 3C and Martlet mintmarks on both sides. Well struck with good detail and bold legends nearly all the way around. Only mild wear and no major flattening to the devices and somewhat conservatively graded. Nicely toned with light blue hues visible when the coin is turned in the light." The second specimen was lot 22445 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1582-83). Elizabeth I (1558-1603). PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Bold portrait, full legends on both sides. Toned and quite attractive." The third specimen was lot 1464 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $420. The catalog description[3] noted, "ENGLAND: Elizabeth I, 1558-1603, AR shilling, ND (1560-1), second issue, Tower Mint, crowned bust 3C left with ELIZABETH ANG' FR ET HIB REGINA around // square-topped narrow shield over long cross fourchée, mintmark cross crosslet, nice portrait with traces of luster, a lovely example! VF to EF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection."
