Egypt 1981 pound Fr-142
This specimen was lot 1006 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 2,250 CHF (about US$3,264 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Arabische Republik, seit 1971. 1 Pound 1401 AH / 1981, Proof. Suez-Kanal. Sehr selten. Nur 150 Exemplare in Proof geprägt. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Arab Republic of Egypt, since 1971, one pound of AH 1401/1981, for the reopening of the Suez canal. Very rare. Only 150 specimens struck in Proof. NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO. Finest certified by NGC.)" This is the first we have seen of this rare NCLT yet the SCWC prices it as a bullion coin. The Suez Canal was closed between 1967 and 1975.
