Denmark-Gluckstadt 1645 2 mark
This specimen was lot 10206 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €671 (about US$774). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Mark, 1645. Glückstadt Mint. Christian IV. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. Popular type with Hebrew lettering. Variation with four arches to the crown. From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Joh. G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale - 1918); later published by the Danish Numismatic Society." Danish crowns of the seventeenth century range from the scarce to the obscenely rare. Either they were melted extensively or the poverty of the king prevented large issues or both. The minors, such as this one from 1645, aren't as popular unless some unusual feature, such as the Hebrew lettering, sparks collector interest. Starting with this issue, two mark were minted thru the rest of the century. Four mark made a krone and six mark made a speciedaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.13 g, 0.593 fine silver, 32 mm diameter.
