Denmark 1644 16 skilling
This specimen was lot 2433 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK: Christian IV, 1588-1648, AR 16 skilling, Copenhagen, 1644, the popular Hebraic type, Hebrew letters for "Jehovah" at center reverse, PCGS graded VF30." This example has the mintmark at the bottom, below "IUDEX"; a variety exists with the mintmark at the top. It was accompanied by a skilling (KM 131), two skilling (KM 132), four skilling (KM 133.1) and two mark (KM 137). A related type, with the date on the reverse (KM 136.2), was struck 1644-46. Sixteen skilling made a mark. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. Denmark lost the Torstenson War and had to cede Jämtland, Härjedalen, Idre, Särna, the Baltic Sea islands of Gotland and Ösel, and the province of Halland to Sweden.
