Denmark 1644 2 skilling
This specimen was lot 65 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €50 (about US$71 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark - 2 Skilling 1644, Silver, CHRISTIAN IV 1588-1648 Crowned coat of arms. Rev. Value. Slightly cleaned. Extremely fine." This type was struck 1644, 1645 and 1648. The specification provided by the SCWC (0.52 g, 0.859 fine silver) is manifestly wrong. It was accompanied by a skilling (KM 131), four skilling (KM 133.1), 16 skilling (KM 136) and two mark (KM 137). Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. Denmark lost the Torstenson War and had to cede Jämtland, Härjedalen, Idre, Särna, the Baltic Sea islands of Gotland and Ösel, and the province of Halland to Sweden.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.29 g, 0.281 fine silver, 19-20 mm diameter, this specimen 1.06 g.
