This specimen was lot 3570 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN, CORREGGIO, Camillo, 1580-1597-1605. Ongaro o. J. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Schön-sehr schön. (Italy, county of Coreggio, Camillus, 1580-1605, undated ongaro or ducat. Extremely rare, fine to very fine.)"
The counts, later princes, of Correggio used their mint to strike imitations of other coins. In 1630, Siro d'Austria was fined by emperor Ferdinand for uttering false coin and he was forced to sell his principality to the duke of Modena. Many varieties exist of this issue.
