Correggio 1600 tallero Dav-8268
This specimen was lot 2982 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Camillo d'Austria, 1597-1605. Tallero da 70 soldi 1600, Corregio. Imitation eines holländischen Löwentalers. Gutes sehr schön. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. Kleine Kratzer im Revers (principality of Correggio, Camillo of Austria, 1597-1605, tallero of 70 soldi of 1600, Correggio mint, imitation of a Dutch lion dollar. Good very fine, Extraordinary condition, Small scratches on reverse)." Wikipedia notes, "Correggio (Reggiano: Curèṡ) is a town and comune...in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, in the Po valley. As of 31 October 2022 Correggio had an estimated population of 25,076. In 1659, the Principality was annexed to the Duchy of Modena." The date is at the bottom of the obverse on either side of the shield. Undated versions of this crown are listed in the SCWC as KM MB57 and Dav-3877.
