Heritage sale 3010, lot 20790

This specimen was lot 20790 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $4,887.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1873 Popayán, MS64 NGC, a choice example with full mint brilliance and well-struck details, and just a few small edge flaws, probably as made. Coins struck at the Popayán Mint during this period are notoriously crude, but this example is bold and attractive." This type was struck at Bogotá (1862-77), Medellin (1867-72) and Popayán (1863-78). All are scarce and many dates are rare.

Specification: 32.26 g, 0.900 fine gold, .933 troy oz AGW (same standard as the French hundred francs d'or).
