Colombia 1873-B 10 centavos
The first specimen was part of lot 44302 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (4) 10 Centavos, 1872-1885. Various Mints. VF-08, VF-20, VF Detail--Scratch & AU Detail--Tooled, AU Detail (PCGS). 4 pieces in lot. KM-171 (3) and KM-175.2a, Restrepo type 272 and 276. Dated 1872, 1873, 1874 (all Bogota), and 1885-Medellin. The 1885-Medellin is untoned with very minor tooling and shows a bold 0.500/0.835 fineness. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The second specimen was part of lot 44321 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (4) 10 Centavos, 1873-1914. Bogota Mint. VF-30, VF-35, AU-58, & EF-40 (PCGS). 4 pieces in lot. 1873 PCGS VF-30, KM-171, Restrepo-272.2, good details and lightly toned, 1884/3 PCGS VF-35, KM-175.1, Restrepo-273.13, nice clear overdate, gray toned, 1897 PCGS AU-58, KM-188, Restrepo-373.1, one year type, sharp strike and attractively toned, and 1914 PCGS EF-40, KM-196.1, Restrepo-377.3, gray toned. A good mixture of types. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck at Bogotá 1872-74 and is common. It is the first Colombian coin denominated ten centavos.
