Colombia 1873-B 5 centavos
The first specimen was lot 44322 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 5 Centavos, 1873. Bogota Mint. MS-65 (PCGS). Sharp strike with satiny luster, full and bold LIBERTY on headband. Highly attractive toning. A gem specimen of the type. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The second specimen was part of lot 42577 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), which sold for $336. The catalog description[2] noted, "COLOMBIA. Mixed Minors, 1873-1902. Various Mints. PCGS & NGC Certified. 6 pieces in lot. 5 Centavos (4) dated 1873, 1885, 1886, and 1902, all MS-62 to MS-65, ...All presentable examples, untoned to lightly toned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck at Bogotá 1872-74 and is common. It is the first Colombian coin denominated five centavos.
