This specimen was lot 76 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $6,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, 1635 A, NGC MS 62, ex-'Mesuno Hoard' (ca. 1636), stated on label. Broad flan with choice full date outside of full cross, bold full mintmark N•R above assayer A to left of full shield, just slightly doubled all over, lustrous and bright, second finest in NGC census behind a single MS 64. From the 'Mesuno Hoard' (ca. 1636)." This type was struck 1628-55 for Philip IV. Most survivors lack legible dates and therefore many dates are not listed altho the Santa Fé mint probably operated continuously during that period.
