This specimen was lot 44056 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Cob 2 Escudos, 163(5)-C E. Cartagena Mint. Philip IV. PCGS AU-58. A VERY RARE and elusive last date for the issue, this lightly circulated gold minor presents an abundance of luster abounding throughout, with clear central devices and all aspects of the date visible save for the final digit. Based on the style of the fleur-de-lis on the reverse the date can be easily determined as it only occurs on the issues of 1635. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection. Ex: Joseph R. Lasser Collection (Ponterio - 1/2006) Lot # 612. Ex: Christie's (10/1989) Lot # 901." The Cartagena mint briefly struck coins 1627-35, but few with legible dates.
