This specimen was lot 77 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $5,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, 1636 A, NGC AU 58, ex-"Mesuno Hoard" (stated on label). Full and clear date (rare thus) outside of full cross with very bold full tressure, full but slightly doubled shield with bold full N•R•A• to left and •II•, centers slightly weak. From the "Mesuno Hoard" (ca. 1636)." This type was struck 1628-55 for Philip IV. Most survivors lack legible dates and therefore many dates are not listed altho the Santa Fé mint probably operated continuously during that period.
