Chile 1973 50 pesos rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is an example of a type first struck in Santiago, Chile, in 1926. It was issued sporadically 1958-74 with no pretense of it being a circulating coin, especially since the peso had been dropped in favor of the escudo in 1960. It was and is a bullion coin, along with a similar gold twenty pesos (KM 168) and 100 pesos (KM 175). The listings in the SCWC are sketchy and lack this date, which could be (but probably isn't) rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10.17 g, 0.900 fine gold, .294 troy oz AGW, 24.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-55, KM 169 (unlisted date).
