The specimen shown was struck in Santiago, Chile, in 1971-72. Soon after this coin was issued, the Allende regime was overthrown by Grl. Agusto Pinochet, inaugurating twenty years of dictatorship. The escudo was dropped in 1976 in favor of the new peso.
Recorded mintage: 160,900,000 for 1971-72.
