Chile 1927 5 pesos

The specimen shown is a one year type struck in Chile. It is the same weight and fineness as the old one peso coins struck until 1891. The one peso coin of 1927 is 9 grams, 0.500 fine silver. Several varieties of this coin exist, depending on the shape of the "5" and whether the fineness is noted as "0,9" or "0.9"; all seem to be about equal in rarity. Oscar Roty's defiant condor, first used in 1895, appeared on virtually all Chilean silver and copper-nickel coins until 1940.
