The specimen shown is a one year type struck in Chile. It is the only coin of this denomination struck during the twentieth century. Oscar Roty's defiant condor, first used in 1895, appeared on virtually all Chilean silver and copper-nickel coins until 1940.
Recorded mintage: 1,060,000 (The SCWC reports 459,510 were melted in 1932).
Specification: 18 g, 0.500 fine silver, .289 troy oz ASW, designed by Oscar Roty.
