Chile 1926 50 pesos
This specimen was lot 26406 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 50 Pesos, 1926-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-61. AGW: 0.2943 oz. Golden-yellow and rather dazzling, this enticing specimen radiates with exceptional beauty and allure. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection." This gold fifty pesos piece was minted in Santiago in 1926 and 1958-74. It was accompanied by similar twenty and hundred pesos (KM 168 and 175) in gold. It is lighter than the twenty pesos of 1896-1917 (KM 158). It is unlikely to have circulated, the wear coming from jewelry use.
