Chile 1867-So 50 centavos KM-134
This specimen was lot 71441 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 50 Centavos, 1867-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. While some surface cleaning has affected the finish on this Chilean piece, it nonetheless offers attractive gunmetal toning and pleasing devices. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This fifty centavo piece was minted in Santiago in 1863-67. This condor also appeared on half décimos, décimos and twenty centavos coins of the 1860's. The high relief led to weak strikes on the condor's body and the relief was lowered in 1867. An 1867/6 overdate is mentioned in the SCWC but is awarded no premium.
Recorded mintage: 47,000, a scarce date. The low relief style (KM 139) is common for 1867.
