This specimen was lot 23331 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 50 Centavos 1865, MS65 NGC, a choice example with full mint brilliance and lovely silvery-gray toning. Very rare type in this elite grade." This fifty centavo piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1862-67. This condor also appeared on half decimos and decimos and twenty centavos coins of the 1860's. The high relief led to weak strikes on the condor's body and the relief was lowered in 1867.
