This coin was lot 9250 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1867. '1' for denomination. RARE one-year type. Soft strike as usual. VERY FINE." A refined version of this design, with "UN PESO" as the denomination, was struck in large numbers 1867-91. This version is priced about one hundred times the value of the later type. This condor also appears on twenty and fifty centavos of 1862-67 (KM 135, KM 134) and is almost always weakly struck.
Recorded mintage: 220,000 (including KM 142.1).
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
