CNG Lissner sale, lot 1402

This specimen was lot 1402 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,331. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republic. 1818-present. AV Peso. Santiago mint. Dated 1861 So. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Very choice and very prooflike brilliant uncirculated. Finest for the type we have seen. Highest ever graded for date and only one higher for type. Very rare date, only 949 minted. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, September 1979." This scarce type was struck 1867 and 1873 only.
