Chile 1865 10 pesos
This specimen was lot 30601 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1865-So MS62 NGC, Santiago mint. Tied with just one other specimen for the finest graded by NGC, this extremely lustrous gold issue features a strong strike and warming brilliance. Some scattered hairlines are evident, along with a few marks on the rim near the top of the obverse." This specimen was one of a series struck 1854-67 in Santiago, Chile. An earlier and a later type exist (KM 123 and KM 145), with slightly different designs for the arms and the standing Liberty. The SCWC does not give this date a premium.
